Bikkhuni chant sanghamitta Stupa, Sri Lanka
In February 2025, on a pilgrimage to Anudharapura, Sri Lanka, Ven. Ariya Mangala met Ven. Dhammadarani. Together they chant the Bikkhuni chant next to the Sanghamitta Stupa Sanghamitta Theri, the daughter of Emperor Ashoka, brought a sapling of the sacred Bodhi Tree to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BCE, establishing the Bhikkhuni Order and giving women the chance to enter monastic life. The Sanghamitta Stupa in Anuradhapura was built to honor her legacy, and the city is also home to the Sri Maha Bodhi. The very tree grown from that sapling, today revered as the oldest documented tree in the world.
